The 1's up and down season continued on Saturday after they went down comfortably to Youlden Parkville. After the success from last week Bala once again won the toss and sent our opposition in. However, the Youlden Parkville bastmen were a lot more solid than the team we played last week. Honey Singh took the first wicket of the game to take the score to 1/36 but Youlden manged to regroup and got back on top. Youlden played brilliantly and went on to post 6/223 after their 45 overs. Harnek Singh (1-22) and Bala Mantripragada (1-20) were the pick of the bowlers with good contributions from Adam Glover (2-34) and Vijender Sharma (1-38).We would need to chase down a big score but definitely had the talent to do it. We lost Steve MacLean early to a very dubious LBW decision. Opening batsman Sai Goud playing his first game in the 1's had a great day and went on to top score with 33 while in form batsmen Mark Irving and Bala Mantripragada scored 27 each. These were all good solid scores but we needed someone to go on and get a big one.Despite an entertaining finish from tail enders VJ Sharma (16 n.o) and Honey Singh (16 n.o) we couldn't quite get there and finished our innings at 9/172.It was a disappointing result for the 1's but if recent results are anything to go by we know they will bounce back next week.
An undermanned 3's outfit was put to the sword by a Barnawartha team that should be playing a lot higher than the grade they are currently in. Big guns Hope, Sczygiol, Graham and Richardson all turned out for the Barnies on Saturday. Many of our players had never seen them before and were unprepared for the carnage that would soon follow. Our boys got off to a fantastic start with Cameron Wirth dismissing George Hope for a duck! Young Cameron playing in just his 5th game for the club probably didn't understand what he had just accomplished. (George Hope once made 243 against us in a one day game and then 292 against Monash a few weeks later).Fast forward a few overs and Cameron claimed his second wicket, with Barnawartha at 2/25 could a big upset be on the cards? The answer was no. Sanjeev Alfred claimed our 3rd wicket 166 runs later. Danny Sczygiol (106) and some kid we'd never seen (112) went on to score tons. A few other Barnawartha batsman chimed in with good scores and they went on to amass a score of 5/350. Our innings never got going. Opening batsman Andrew Richardson (56) can hold his head high. Richo played a lone hand and was the last to be dismissed, a very good effort but a lack of support from the rest of the order gave us no chance. It wasn't a good day for the 3rds. There's not a lot else to say. We have a very winnable game against Youlden Parkville next week.
